Quick Showering Tips When You Suffer with Psoriasis

Staying clean and refreshed without irritation is complicated when you have psoriasis, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up bathing and showering.

The problem is that heat, water and friction can all irritate your already sensitive skin, so the better you can control those variables, the more comfortable you will be.

Showering can help or hinder your psoriasis – here are some tips on how to optimize your time in the shower to stay comfortable and healthy while you cleans.

Tips for a Better Shower

  1. Stay away from commercial soaps, liquid and bar.
Commercial liquid cleansers and shampoos have chemicals that irritate and dry the already irritated skin.

Switch to an all-natural Goat’s Milk Soap cleansing bar and an all-natural Healthy Hair Shampoo bar. Both will give you relief from the itching, irritation and pain while they soften and soothe skin.

  2. Less is more.
    Stay away from long showers.

  3. Keep it cool.
Hot water is irritating and will further dry out psoriasis patches.  Cool water can bring some relief.

  4. Stop rubbing.
Aggressive movements can cause painful splitting and in turn more scabbing.  Gentle or slight pressure can help you remove some of the flaking.

  5. Go easy on the towel.
When you are drying off, avoid quick rubbing motions that you may be used to. Instead, pat yourself dry and gently remove the excess water from your body.

You also don’t have to be completely dry before moisturizing your skin because a little bit of water needs to remain on the skin in order to better help keep the skin hydrated.

  6. Moisturize.
After the shower or bath, it is important to capture and lock in that moisture by applying moisture boosting skin creams and lotions.

Moisturizers are beneficial to everyone with psoriasis and we encourage you to use them daily.  People with psoriasis and suffer with very dry skin that needs moisture, especially during the dry winter months or in drier climates.  Drier conditions such as cold weather and dry heat inside homes and buildings can exasperate the condition.

Moisturizers will not cure plaque psoriasis, but they keep it under control by hydrating skin.  Moisturizing helps relive the itching, irritation and pain while reducing the dryness, inflammation, and scaling.  All-natural moisturizers heal and repair while keeping skin soft, supple and smooth.

We offer an all-natural moisturizer, soothing ointment, and an incredible repair serum that are formulated with active ingredients to treat psoriasis and eczema.

These are some of the basic showering techniques and tips on how to naturally treat and manage the symptoms of psoriasis.
