Zinc Oxide: A Naturally Safe Way to Protect Skin

We are committed to using safe, natural ingredients in our formulations and the standards for our SUNCARE products aren’t any different. When it comes to sun protection, we believe in the safety and benefits of using an all-natural Sunblock that is formulated with the mineral zinc oxide.

What is Zinc Oxide?

As you probably guessed, zinc oxide is made from zinc, a type of metallic element found in nature.

While zinc itself can be found in nature, zinc oxide is not naturally-occurring, but rather created when zinc is chemically heated and combined with oxygen molecules. The two elements are vaporized, condensed, and formed into a powder that is fine, white, crystallized and sits on top of the skin (1).  An advanced formula of zinc oxide is now capable of being applied to the skin without leaving behind a thick, white film, therefore opening the doors for much wider acceptance of natural sunscreen products.

We use non-nano zinc oxide in our SUNCARE because it sits on the skin to form a protective barrier against the elements and outside factors. This also greatly reduces the risk of allergic reaction and irritation. It is an active sunblock ingredient because it naturally bounces the sun’s UVA and UVB rays off the skin and back into the environment. Unfortunately, commercial sunscreens are often loaded with dangerous chemicals that get absorbed into the body.

Zinc Oxide also repairs skin cells and helps to keep wound areas moist and clean. It’s used in lotions and creams as an effective skin astringent. Zinc Oxide is an effective acne treatment – it reduces the appearance of blemishes, reduces skin inflammation and irritation, and the number and severity of acne outbreaks.

SUNCARE Body Lotion

Our new SUNCARE Body Lotions contain a moisturizing blend of botanical oils and extracts that absorb quickly without clogging pores or leaving the skin feeling greasy or sticky. It glides on smoothly for easy, flawless coverage. The creamy texture makes it easier to use with other skin care products and it’s easier to re-apply when you’re in the sun. Because it is made to be a physical sun protection product along with being a moisturizer, it does need to be reapplied every two hours. It’s available in unscented or a light coconut fragrance (Phthalate Free).

SUNCARE Facial Lotions

Our SUNCARE Facial Lotions are formulated for year-round everyday use under makeup.  Both are lightweight and non-greasy, ideal for the face, neck and ears.  

SUNCARE Light Facial Lotion is suitable for all skin types, but especially those with oily, acne, combination or sensitive skin. SUNCARE Hydrating Facial Lotion is suitable for dry, mature and sun-damaged skin.  

How To Use Our SUNCARE Lotions

To use SUNCARE, just spread it evenly over your skin and rub it in until it looks nice and feels comfortable.  Begin with a small amount and add more as necessary.  

Remember that Zinc oxide is a physical sun blocking ingredient, so it needs to be on top of the skin for it to be effective.  Make sure you’re reapplying every two hours and covering up any part of your body that you’re not using sun protection on.
